Maple Leaf is one of the most recognised cement brands on Pakistani construction sites, and one of the brands our site teams work with regularly. This guide explains the types of Maple Leaf cement, what the "grade" printed on the bag actually means, what drives the price per bag, and which cement belongs at each stage of your build. About Maple Leaf Cement
Maple Leaf Cement Factory Limited, part of the Kohinoor Maple Leaf Group, is among Pakistan's oldest cement producers — its roots go back to 1956. Its plant at Iskanderabad, District Mianwali (Punjab) produces grey cement for general construction as well as white cement, in which Maple Leaf is one of the market leaders in Pakistan.
Types of Maple Leaf Cement and When to Use Each
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)
The workhorse of every grey structure: footings, columns, beams, roof slabs, brickwork mortar and plaster. If your engineer's drawings don't specify otherwise, OPC is what they mean.
White Cement
Used for decorative finishes, terrazzo, tile grouting, and smooth wall finishes where a bright, clean base is needed. It is a finishing material — never use white cement for structural concrete.
Sulphate Resistant Cement (SRC)
Made for foundations in aggressive soil. If your plot's soil test shows high sulphate content or a saline water table — common in some areas around Lahore and along canals — SRC protects underground concrete from chemical attack. Your structural consultant decides this from the soil report, not from guesswork.
Low-Alkali Cement
Specified when the aggregate (crush) is reactive to alkalis, preventing long-term cracking known as alkali-silica reaction. It is a specialist requirement — again, driven by testing, not preference.
What Does the "Grade" on a Cement Bag Mean?
Cement strength classes follow the Pakistani/European standard (PS 232 / EN 197-1): a class of 42.5 or 52.5 means the cement reaches at least that many MPa of compressive strength at 28 days. A higher class gains strength faster and suits structural concrete; for ordinary mortar and plaster the difference matters far less than fresh stock and correct mixing.
Maple Leaf Cement Price in Pakistan
Cement prices in Pakistan change frequently — sometimes weekly — with coal prices, fuel, and season. Rather than quoting a number that will be outdated by the time you read it, here is what actually determines what you pay per 50 kg bag:
- City and dealer: rates differ between Lahore, other Punjab cities, and up-country markets.
- Quantity: full-truck (600+ bags) project pricing is meaningfully below retail.
- Type: white cement costs a multiple of grey OPC; SRC carries a small premium.
- Season: peak construction months (spring and autumn) push retail rates up.

Fresh Stock: The Check That Matters More Than Brand
- Check the packing date on the bag — cement loses strength in storage; avoid stock older than about 3 months.
- A fresh bag feels powdery throughout. Lumps that don't crumble between your fingers mean moisture damage — reject the bag.
- Buy sealed bags with intact branding and a full 50 kg weight; loose or re-stitched bags are a classic adulteration sign.
- Store bags off the floor on pallets, away from walls, covered — and use older stock first.
Which Cement at Which Stage of Your House
| Stage | Cement | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations in normal soil | OPC | Per structural drawings |
| Foundations in sulphate/saline soil | SRC | Confirmed by soil test |
| Columns, beams, roof slabs | OPC (42.5+) | Fresh stock, machine-mixed |
| Brickwork & plaster | OPC | Correct sand ratio matters most |
| Tile grouting, decorative finishes | White cement | Finishing only |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Maple Leaf cement good for roof slabs?
Yes — Maple Leaf OPC is widely used for structural concrete across Punjab. What matters equally is fresh stock, the right mix ratio, machine mixing, and proper curing for at least 14 days.
What is Maple Leaf white cement used for?
Decorative finishes: wall putty base, terrazzo, mosaic, and tile grouting. It is not a structural material.
What does low-alkali cement mean?
Cement manufactured with restricted alkali content, used when the aggregate is alkali-reactive. It prevents alkali-silica reaction, a slow chemical expansion that cracks concrete over years.
How many cement bags does a house need?
As a rough planning figure, a 10 marla grey structure in Lahore consumes on the order of 1,400–1,800 bags depending on design, storeys and covered area. An exact figure comes from your BOQ — our grey structure service includes a bag-by-bag material estimate.
